2016 MET GALA

"Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology"

In October, Vogue released the theme for the 2016 Met Ball, Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology. Technology and fashion are taking over the world so it's amazing being able to see them merge into one. Next year's theme was very different from other years, I don't 100% understand what the theme means but I'm excited to see what stars will be wearing.

Everybody translates fashion differently, this years theme was China: Through the Looking Glass. There are 2 type of people at the Met Gala, either you're a Kim Kardashian and you literally wear whatever you want, or you can be a Rihanna and completely shut down the red carpet in her hand-made (it was literally made by one chinese woman) Guo Pei coat.

As usual, I was daydreaming in class and just thinking of ideas (or basically imaging everything and anything) that can be done with my blog and it came to me; style an outfit. As an aspiring magazine fashion editor, styling is a must and personally it's something I love to do. Whether I am styling my sister or my cousin, I'm just always doing it and I enjoy it.

When I thought of technology I instantly thought of the Maison Margiela Spring 2014 Haute Couture collection, there is a certain metallic, ancient Africa inspiration and I wanted the outfit to revolve around the coat itself. Paired with a pony hair, plum color skirt, skin-tight turtleneck by Marni, silver Diorama bag by Dior, bright-red patent leather thigh high boots by Dior and neutral makeup with plum dark lips.  I knew that this outfit was perfect and something I'd never seen at the Met Gala.

Disclaimer: none of the photos used in the collage are mine.
